Summer Vacation Guests

SIL Piney & Grand Jocelyn arrived on time to the airport in Des Moines. We gave them a little rest time on Saturday and then on Sunday we hit the Mid Iowa Antique Power Show.

Goiong on Sunday is always a little bit of a risk, lots of folks start to pack up by noon or so.
We rented a golf cart for Hubs and that was fun!
Ice cream and Apple slushies were on the fare-it was HOT.

Jocelyn and Jaymie teamed up to complete the scavenger hunt.
They loved the horses of course. And they also collected all the clues to solve the puzzle!

They also bioth made jump ropes-just like the grown ups did back in the day when they were littler.
It didn't seem like a very big turn out this year for the show, but between the heat and the covid status, not too bad overall.

We all had a good time for the morning and then  headed out to Julie's for Ice Creram.

We had the whole family there!

On Monday we went to the Coralridge Mall. Jocelyn and Jaymie went Ice Skating!
Jocelyn was a pretty skilled skater-Jaymie was catching up quickly though!

They were both having a great time!
And of course some shopping and goofing around had to happen too. Typical teens!
Then we were ready for the trip out to the Veterans Trail out at the East Overlook at Coralville Lake on Tuesday.

I hadn't been out there for quite a few years-it's all nicely paved now and just an easy short loop for anyone to complete.

Here's the Daniel rock.

It was a nice visit. Then we hopped over to the fossil gorge, just up the road a little bit.
It was a gorgeous day!

The gals loved hunting for the fossils.

And hunting for the gals...oh there they are!

Then we stopped in at the American Legion and met Daniel for lunch. Then  made a quick stop over to Amana to see a few shops.
I told them to make tourist faces!HAHAHA!!!
So cute....
The furniture and clock shop was a very relaxing stop. We also went into the general store and the chocolate shop and a couple of metal art stores and Lily Lake too.
Ready to roll for Wednesday!
We headed over to Kalona-land of horse and buggies. First stop the creamery for some cheese curds and ice cream.
That shirt sure is nice and clean isn't it...not for long...that ice cream cup becomes a disaster!
We went to an antique store in Kalona and we also went to the Stringtown store and the Annex Amish country store. I didn't take many pictures, but Piney as taking as many as she could! We then went and refueled at Mid Town restaurant on Iowa City. A quick stop at the mall and then Ready for Thursday! I took the girls swimming at the North liberty pool-indoors-it was kind of chilly for swimming. Then picked up the chicken from Pizza Ranch for the trip to the Drive In!
Thursday night we drove over to Newton to the finally re opened Valle Drive In. They had sustained some pretty serious damage when a tornado blew through the area last spring and this was their first full weekend open.

Top Gun Maverick followed by... TWISTER! LOL!
We had a good time! Nice weather and lots of popcorn! We all shared a pretty stuffy cold bug that went around, but we have lots of meds on hand!
Friday we just messed around town-shopped a little bit, and rested up to get to the airport in Des Moines at 4am.

We had a really great time with the family and just like when you get home from vacation it's great to send them home and it's great to get home too! We'll have to do this again sometime!
