Another Year Goes By

So I just passed the one year mark with my mattress. Remember I blogged about it last year, HERE.

I bought the Cocoon Chill mattress and it came in a box. And full disclosure, I didn't get any kind of perk for saying nice things about this mattress.

SO After one year. I gotta say, I still love this mattress. It's not too soft, it's not too hard, it's just right.

It looks and feels as good as it did the day I got it. I feel so much better, no hip or back pain and sometimes I don't even want to get out of bed, it's so comfortable! And it was the 4th of July the other day.

After more than a year of restrictions due to Covid, everyone was glad to see the 4th of July parade go on! Bring on the color guard! YAY!

And the fire trucks and other emergency services. Our small town is lucky to have lots of other small towns that come to each others small town 4th of July parades! 

Little Luna came to the parade with DD. She did a good job and wasn't afraid of any of the sirens and horns. She wanted all that candy the kids were hauling in!

It was a crazy hot day on the 4th. Sure glad we were lucky enough to get a shady spot to watch from. Earlier on the 4th, DD and I went to the antique shows around the county. First was the one over at Amana, then the one in Mt Vernon, then the one at the Johnson County Fairgrounds! 

Look what I bought. This is a cool tool. There was a guy with lots of tools and I picked up a cute little yard stick all folded up...it was $110.    I put it down!

But at another place I saw this little ruler. Isn't it cute.  I love how perfect it is. Even the numbers that are on the brass part are lined up perfectly.

It's supposed to have a little brass T square that slides out, so I got it for only $9. I'm putting it in my sewing tool drawer. I love a cool tool. 

And lookie here, the materials that were on order to complete the deck arrived! I'll post about that when the work is done!

 

Working OT

So, I've been working quite a bit of OT lately. And so I had some spare cash...haha-spare...too funny.  Anyways, after sleeping on the Hilton Hotel bed, when I traveled to Louisville with my sister, I decided I needed a new bed at home. SO I shopped around on line, and compared and read a lot. I ordered this.....it was on sale! I paid about $500...thank you OT!

 Cocoon Chill by Sealy mattress. It comes in a box and is all rolled up in there.  It took about a week to come. It's a memory foam mattress, and it's made in America! Not all the mattresses like this are...I read a lot! It has this covering on it that's supposed to be cooler than other mattresses. We'll see.

 It's pretty heavy, I shuffled it off to the bedroom and popped it open.

 Hmmm, well it looks like it will work fine.

 I dumped it onto my existing box spring.  It says you can put it on slats if you want, but I kind of like the higher bed-keeps dogs off a little bit better.

 It's folded and rolled up tight.

 Ok, here we go, I'll get this first layer of plastic off.....

 And then get the giant sealed bag off......

 And it starts unfolding all by itself!

 Here it comes! Wow! It's really sealed in that bag, and pops right up when it's released.

 It took maybe 5 minutes for it to completely un-smash.

 We bought the full size mattress, we don't really have a lot of extra space-I'd have to cut back on sewing space- and it seems like it fits on the box spring base fine-maybe it's about an inch bigger. I don't think it will be a problem.

So there it is, the Cocoon Chill mattress. I'll report back in a few days-after some sleep!

The Park Ranger's Bed

So, the twin sized bed in Uber Son's room was getting pretty ratty. I figured I'd find a double bed so we'd be all set for overnight guests. I got a new mattress & box spring for me and moved the older one right in. I just needed a frame for it.  I looked at a few yard sales and I went to the Wednesday auction, and I browsed Craig's List and that's where I found this beauty.

 I called the owner, he was over in West Branch, Iowa. He gave me directions and off Hubs and I went to see it. It was love at first sight for me. Such pretty wood! I met the owner who happened to be a National Park Ranger at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Sight. A very nice guy and the bed was ours for only $50.

I threw mom's quilt on it for a picture...looks awesome doesn't it! And those freshly painted walls...Oh My!!!!
