A Little Quilt finish

So, I mentioned that Mama Klux had given me a little  pile of fabric to use when she moved. 

 

 There were 6 panels of this little puppy kitty print-vintage from the 80's I'd guess. SO I thought I'd turn it into a quilt for the church bazaar coming up in October. I trimmed off the ugly edge prints.

 I made some of those easy star blocks to go with and give it a scrappy look. I think it helps it not look so dated. I'm planning to have this be toddler bed/crib size. Here's the layout-I also used the border print for the star center squares-the puppies and kitties are pretty cute!

 I also used those dreaded cornerstone borders. I have a hard time getting them to match up, but I must be getting better because these came out pretty good!

 I used a big meandering quilting design and I also used a different batting this time.

 I was at Hobby Lobby and they had needled poly batting, so I thought I'd give it a try. Bob said it was OK.

 See I used the border print on the back side too. And I used a dark print for the binding. It looks great! So the whole thing was completed from stash/scrap fabrics! YAY!

 And after a wash it looks great! I didn't know what to expect with the poly batting, but I like it a lot.

 It still has the same crinkly goodness as when I used the cotton batting. I used my coupon at H.L. and the regular price for the batting is only $3.99/yd!! What a good deal!!

 

Next up, I have a couple of Doll panels that Mama Klux also gave me. My Mom made some of these same panels for DD when she was a little girl!

Baby Quilt Finish!

So, DD works with a Dr. who will be having a baby soon. She said their baby room theme was vintage travel luggage/Giraffe. OOO K. I found this awesome vintage fabric at Hobby Lobby it's Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements. He does make some really wonderful fabric-and paper too!

 A little while back I saw this Quilt a long at Polka Dot Chair.   She always has the nicest quilts! I thought I'd give the quilt a long a try-just not right at that time. Her pattern is called Seasonal Safari. I like the way each row is different-and they're nice big blocks-so that means QUICK!

 I had a little struggle with these big hourglass blocks...I fixed it after DD pointed out that the intersection was not good. Thanks Sweetie!

 I messed around with the layout for a while. I added some extra strips in between the rows and I chose not to make the 3rd quilt a long row-it looks like a saw tooth and I just didn't like it.

 

And I made a zigzag row instead of a plain row too.

 So I got it all together and used one of the dotted prints I had in my stash for the binding.

 I LOVE it! The colors in these [pictures are a little odd....

 Must be because it was kind of late when I took them-bad light.

 Here it is after a wash! Love the crinkly goodness!

I love the way it came out! I hope the new baby Momma likes it too!

3 Inches is Better

So you know I've been dinking around with this baby play quilt. For awhile-hey, I had some distractions...
anyways, it is done now.

 The big news though is this. 3 inches is better. So many quilt patterns and plans call for 2 1/2" binding strips. I was always fussing with them.

 I couldn't get good corners. I was really struggling to get the look I wanted using my favorite all machine stitched binding.

 But easy as can be, use 3" strips, and LOOK! good corners, good coverage, looking good!

 I love this 3" binding.

I guess that just goes to show ya, that those fancy smancy quilt patterns don't always have the best way to do things! There's MY way! LOL.
