Rainy Auction Day

 This big hill is where cars parked to go to the farm auction at the top of the hill. It was a little hike-a lot of hike for my Mom though! Thankfully they had golf carts running folks and their purchases back and forth throughout the day.

 Dad out bid the competition to get the two anvils he wanted....and thankfully the carts gave him a lift to the pick up with them!

 See these two anvils on the bumper of the cart? It was a good way to go! And a great way to get through the mud!

 Most of the .ittle stuff on hay racks was in the machine shed-the rain just wasn't letting up!

 I saw this giant safe-it's pretty cool-I bet it weighs more than anvils!

Mom and me got out of the rain and went to the fabric store...we're smart that way! We got back just in time to help get Dad load up to go! He had to get pulled out of the mud though-poor pick up just couldn't manage the slimy mud! I don't think we'll go to day two!

Not Enough Hours in the Weekend!

So, I had a lovely lunch and shopping spree in Valley Junction in West Des Moines Iowa with my cousin Shannon...I was bad and didn't take one single photo! But we did go to several quilt shops and a paper store too! Such a great time! And we also had lunch at the General Store Eatery in Valley Junction. Delicious!
Then it was over to Mom & Dad's to visit a little. Dad was out in the garage, of course!

 I visited with him and his anvils for a little bit.

 He's getting a pretty big collection going again. But he'll sell you one any time!

 This one has been abused-are those bullet marks????!

 And before I left town I had to stop for a maid rite. SOooooo good!

 Marshalltown still has a long way to go to be back to normal after the tornado hit them last month.Coming along on 3rd Ave, you can see all the tarps on roofs, and the trees are just totally torn up. The entire South East side was really hit hard.

 Even out on West Main street, which has some of my favorite old houses to look at, there is a lot of damage. Trees are just gone, roofs are damaged or missing, and windows are broken everywhere.

Main street through Downtown is mostly open, one lane in places though. The rainy weather is sure not helpful to get work done. Next I'll get to the Family Reunion on Sunday!

Independence Day Weekend

SO I popped up to the folks' house and we stopped in Marshalltown , Iowa to
Relics Midwest   they had a big sale advertised on Facebook,Relics Midwest so I drug mom & Dad along to look around. They had never been and neither had I. Lots of doors! And look at the registers!

Lots of architectural salvage type items love the trims.... Dad bought a couple of things

One was this teapot-I bet it's called something else-that fits on the hole of his stove out in the garage. Looks pretty good, doesn't it? He said he had been on the lookout for one for awhile that was the right size, so SCORE!

And I checked on the anvil stock. Yup, still plenty of them around. Seems like a lot more really big ones though;

The anvils are always interesting to see.

This big one is actually part of the base...it's a mystery kind of, Dad says it's unique. So that was all the fun I had there.

Then on the 4th I was up early to hit the Ackerman Antique/flea market at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Iowa City, Iowa.

This is a really big event. I always see stuff I've never seen before-look at the size of these crocks!!

This booth was my absolute favorite-total Mid Century Modern....

Look at those glasses, oh my goodness-If I didn't hate to dust so much I'd have that cool lamp!

They even had a little bit of Jadetite-I think DD has some of these bowls though-I really should get a list from her.

 

WOW! I've never seen so many figurines in one group. There's a whole city worth of people here!!LOL! And you can have your choice for only $5!!

Whoa! Look out-here's couple of escapees from figurine town at a booth a little ways away.....

Here's a picnic basket I've never seen before-It's from the Hawkeye picnic basket company and made in Burlington, Iowa. And it's insulated. Pretty cutting edge stuff, and it can be yours for only $200.

 I'm going to get one of these metal baskets eventually, but I'm too cheap to pay $30

  There doesn't seem to be any shortage of them...Mom has one that used to belong to Great Grampa & Great  Gramma Roskamp.

 Crocks were there in full force and they seem to be a little pricier than I have seen in the past.

 The lightening rod trend seems to be going on-I love the one I have from DD out in my garden....

And I love the great mid century look of these clocks, but I already have a nice one from Anita!

Well I saw a lot there, so it's on to the 4th of July parade in Coralville with the family and then home to Oxford for their parade. Jaymie is running her lemonade stand again, and let me tell you she made a killing! Over $30!

Ben got off work in time to come to the parade.

We all had a great time at the parade.

The kids always get a lot of candy and it just wouldn't be 4th of July without the parade!

The only thing I bought was this new dog toy for Ringo at the flea market! We'll see how long it holds up.

Auction Day!

 So , lookie here! I scored these really pretty vintage ornaments at an auction on Sunday over in Shueyville, Iowa.

 They are the smaller sized ornaments and I think I was lucky to get them for only $10.

 The auction was a good one, not too much junk , and a lot of good stuff. Plus I got to meet my Dad there!! YAY! he was looking to bid on a couple of anvils.

 Of course it took forever to get to them. But it was a nice cool day and things moved along pretty well.

 There were several quilts that went pretty well and lots of kitchen ware.

 And just look at this dining room set! OH MY! If I had a place to put it I would have bought it in a heartbeat. That Asian influenced mid century modern look...WOW!

 And sheds full of scrap iron and lots of shed type pf things. I liked the look of this big hank of rope.

And Dad got both anvils and some other blacksmith type of things. A good day for all!
