Only A Week Away....

 I've been working a lot lately....a coworker tested positive for covid, and so I had to cover a bit more than usual. Last weekend was the first mow of the year. I'm so thankful for DD to be my gardener!

The weather has been crazy! One day it's frosty, the next it's 90!

So the plants don't know which to do, bloom or wait a bit! But these cookies I got from DD and her friend Andrew are blooming just fine! Aren't they cute?! 

And tasty too! 

In addition to the cookies they also got me some adorable vintage Christmas ornaments. 

and THREE vintage wooden folding rulers. Now I didn't know I was collecting rulers, but I guess I am now! These are adorable!

And all of it in a vintage picnic basket. Yes, I know, I've sworn off baskets, but look at this one!

Rope handles....too cute!!!!

And my new chairs just arrived! Aren't they good looking chairs!

And very comfortable! DD and her short legs even sit comfortably!

The rhubarb that I planted in the fall is trying really hard to get going. I don't know if I should pluck off those seeds or let it be? Googling.......welll I'm supposed to cut to off the seeds, it says the crazy temperatures make the rhubarb bolt. That's what that's called when it goes to seed too early. Off I go to cut. 

Mother's Day Weekend Running Around

 Here's my Mom & Dad I love this photo-Mom looks absolutely worn out! Beautiful, but I can only imagine what a time it was for her. That's my older brother-just think, no Pampers, no daycare, man, times were tough!  So, for Mother's Day on Saturday sister Julie and I took Mom out for lunch. We went to the Chinese buffet in downtown Marshalltown. It was pretty good. As I was leaving town, I took a couple of pictures of the work going on at the county courthouse.

 It had been damaged last year when a tornado went through town.

 They seem to be making good progress.

 Then on Sunday I stopped by Helio's Quilt Shop in Mt Vernon. The new fabric line for the All Iowa Shop Hop was on display.

 Isn't that panel cute? It's not available until June1, when the shop hop begins.

At least they had plenty of other fabric for me to shop!.

Happy Mother's Day Mom! I love you and am so thankful. I think me and my Sibs and kids are the luckiest kids around. You are an awesome Mom and Grandma!

My mom is pictured here with us 3 older kids and our Dad. I don't know how she managed with 3 kids tearing up stuff, but she did! I'm pretty sure she made the outfits my sister and me are wearing. Mom always says she hated to have her picture taken, but I'm glad she did it once in awhile, to me she is so pretty! If the year on the photo border is correct I was about 6 years old...what a cute red headed kiddo!  Happy Mother's Day Mom!Love You!

Lunch at Mama DiGrado's

So DD and I went to Marshalltown to take my Mom & Dad out to lunch for Mother's day.  Mom had heard that mama DiGrado's was good so we thought we'd give it a try. The restaurant is located at Marshalltown mall, easy access from outside on the west-side, or from inside the Mall.

I ordered the calzone sandwich-meatball version. I asked for the lettuce, tomato and such on the side. It was very good-excellent crust, I'd leave off the salad stuff altogether and just ask for a side of marinara sauce next time.

Dad had the chef salad minus the turkey. Nice big heap of lettuce and a nice pile of ham & bacon too. A really large portion!

Mom had the spaghetti-she had the kids portion size and it was the  perfect size. She really liked the garlic toast too.

Darling Daughter had the chicken Alfredo. I tasted hers of course, and the pasta was cooked perfectly and it was tasty. I almost always say this so get ready...avert your eyes... "Dan makes better Alfredo."   OK you can come back to reading now.!! We all enjoyed our food. The prices are very reasonable, and the dining room was clean and simply furnished.  The server did a nice job getting all the special requests correct and it was a nice place to have lunch. I think I'd like to try their pizza next time. Here's a Link
