The Non-Jelly Roll Rug!

So the big trend I've noticed on Quilter blogs and such is to make a jelly roll rug.  Well we all know I'm too cheap to buy a jelly roll, but I have a ton of strip scraps!Look at this! I have already made a quilt top(I'll tell you about that later) and I STILL have this many stripy scraps....

 So I cut up almost all of the blue green family of strip scraps into 2 1/2" strips and then cut up all the batting scraps I had in my batting drawer. All those strips I get when I trim off the edges of a quilt are now going in a rug!

 I watched a few on line videos,and they all say to buy the pattern...whatever....Who needs a pattern for this! I see the technique, so away we go! All you do is layer the batting with the fabric, fold the edges to the middle, then fold it over-just like bias tape from a package- then sew along the edge to make a looooong rope of rug.

 One of the tips I saw on a video, was to keep the surface level as you sew the rope into a rug, so I stacked up my collection of Block magazines to make a level surface. See-why would I buy a table extension? LOL!

 Here we go! It's coming along really well.

See, you just use a wide zigzag stitch to put the whole thing together.

 I made a really long rope, so it's taking a really long time-like 2 hours to stitch it around.

 All done except-oopsy!! I had to go back and restitch a couple of places where I missed matching the edges on the way around the rug!

 

And here it is all done! I'm putting this one in the bathroom! It looks much better than I thought it would! It finished about 25" X 45" and I've noticed, since it's been on the floor a little while, it kind of stretches/flattens out so it's growing an inch or two!

Toaster Joy

 

So after, I'm guessing, 15 years of service, our toaster quit working. The handle wouldn't stay down for me...it stayed down for Hubs though! LOL! Maybe operator error? Well, I think we're due for a new one! So I checked around on line and ordered this little beauty from Target. So, did you know you can order on line and then go to the store and they have what you ordered ready fro you to pick up? I thought, This will save me some time on my way to work. Ha! Not so much. You just end up standing in the order pick up line instead of the check out line. Not such a time saver. Anyways....

 

 MMM, bagels-it has a bagel button, so when you put the cut sides of the bagel towards the outsides, and press the bagel button,it only toasts that side! WOW! New technology!

 Look at that, perfectly toasted bagel! Somehow I bet this new toaster doesn't last as long as the old one...but you never know-for $16.99 I think we got a good deal!

 And we have some measurable snow today! The dogs always love it!

And I'm working on getting my scrap strips used up to a manageable level....snort...funny!!!

Little Snappy Project

 I had an email that mentioned how easy these little snappy bags were to make so I thought I'd try it out! My Mom made some of these a few years ago, and they were pretty cute, so here we go.

 I had a little tape measure that wouldn't go back in it's case, so it was the perfect thing to try out this project. You just cut the metal tape measure to size, then cover the sharp ends with a bit of tape. These bags are lined, with a layer of scrap batting in between. You make a pocket for the tape out of the lining layer.

 And a little square folded to make tabs on each side. Then just sew up the sides and  TA-DA!

 I sent these down to the church bazaar. I'll hope they all sold!

 My scraps are getting a little bit out of control again, I better make something else out of them!

Cute little Gifts for DD

I saw this cute little head band in the Quilts & More magazine and thought that DD would look really cute in a few.

 Plus I could use up my overflowing scrap bag a little. How come it seems like the scrap bag never gets smaller?
