Little Things on the To Do List

SO, I talked awhile back about this pretty little machine I found by the dumpster at DD's condo building. EDIT! OOpsy, I thought I had talked about this machine....but I guess not...so...here's where I found her....
Google tells me she's a British Singer from about 1966. She's a cousin of my original sewing machine that my Mom bought for me back in 1976.
My Original Gal loaned her the bobbin case to see if she would go. I oiled her up a bit and.....
Look at that-away she goes!
Here's the bobbin case she needs-on loan from my original gal.....hahah OG!
She needed a bobbin case. So I got one ordered and it came and look at this. I popped in a new needle and threaded her and wheeeee!
She stitches a great stitch! I grabbed a few scraps from the bin and sewed up these little 9 patch blocks for a test run. I guess she'll be a back up to the back up machine.  Unless I can find a good home for her-I sure don't want to see her by the dumpster!!
Then look at this light bulb I got for the front porch. It's a smart bulb. It is pretty smart! I can control the light with my phone app!
When I go to work at night I would wish that the porch light was on, but I didn't want it to stay on all night long. SO now I have this smart bulb programmed to turn on at 8:15pm and turn of  at 9:05pm.
And I can make it change colors with the app-what fun!
And I thought I was done making masks, but MaMa Klux (Jean's Mom) asked if I could make her some masks for her annual get together with her gal pals.
She provided this cute chick fabric and I made masks they could reverse and be pirates for Halloween.
And I made some with the girly make-up fabric just for fun.
Now maybe, I'm done with masks for awhile again!

This Little Beauty Named Lyric

Sew, I picked up this little beauty on October 25. I've been holding off on this post to tell about it because I wanted to run her through her paces.
This is Baby Lock Lyric. I'm really enjoying the list of things she'll do! She has a nice slim free arm, she also has a nice big extension table and a just right sized free arm tool box insert.  Auto thread cutter, needle threader-and that threader hasn't missed threading the needle yet!- and a good looking stitch, so far on all of them I've tried out!
She has 5 built in alphabets and can sew them really well. I also needed to have the needle up/down selection, auto tension, and easy to drop feed dogs. The tension is actually called manual in the literature, but it automatically adjusts when you change stitches, but you can also adjust it with the display screen. Good looking blanket stitch and it adjusts size without loosing the nice stitching quality. SO many decorative stitches! I doubt I'll ever use them all, but it's fun to have some and they came with it:-)
I dropped the feed dogs to test out the free motion quilting ability. It took me a little bit to get the sweet spot for a great looking stitch. I had to manually adjust the tension all the way to the top!
The stiches look great on the front and the back!
Here's the cute baby quilt I just finished for a lady at our church. She named the baby Gwendolyn.....
yeah, well Gwennie it is!
I also put in a bigger needle and did this jean mending job.
These are a lady from work's sons jeans.
Lyric sewed though those pocket corners without any hesitation!
And sewed that thick crotch seam-that's like 6 layers of denim total-without a bit of trouble!
 Good looking patch job!
These were Carhart jeans, the color is kind of funky in this picture, but again, Lyric sewed it lik eit was nothing.
SO all in all, Lyric passes the tests! I am a little unhappy with having to adjust the tension before free motion quilting looks good, but it does look good when I adjust it all the way to 8. It has a lot more room between the needle and the right side of the machine too, I fit that baby quilt though there like nobody's business! So nice!
It uses the plastic class15 bobbins-the same as my little ol' Brother machine and my old workhorse Baby Lock. The bobbins wind easily and threading the machine is really easy-no crazy loops to find! AND it comes with a walking foot as well as a whole slew of other feet. SO now I better get busy and sew something!

Nine Dollars Worth of Fun

So At the auction yesterday, over in Watkins, DD was eying a couple of things with me and so she bid on them! Look at the lovely case on this little Singer sewing machine. Heck that pretty wooden case is worth the high bid price of nine stinkin' dollars. REALLY!! Can you believe it! Well it had to come home with us!

Inside the lid-which BTW has the key too-attached to a string tied to the handle-is the knee lever. This machine doesn't have a foot control-it has a knee control. The metal control fits n the little hole in the case and hangs down to the sewer's knee to turn it on and off.
Bet my Mom already knew that!
So I checked the electrical cord, which looked like it had been replaced in  at some point not too long ago-maybe the 70's? Anyway it was in good shape.

Then I turned the hand wheel and made sure it would move well, and then I looked in the bobbin case! YIKES! What the heck??
Look at these long skinny bobbins! There's a little push button that releases the bobbin case and then you can threaded it almost like a regular today kind of bobbin. I won't be able to wind bobbins until I get a new rubber O ring for the wheel on the winder, you can see it's pretty rotted.
So we're all threaded and ready to go!
Look at that! It goes like a champ! WOW! It's pretty smooth, and makes a nice stitch. No reverse though! And nothing fancy here...BUT WAIT ! LOOK! Yes there's more.... look at all of these attachments!!!!!!
There's a ruffler, a tucker, a binder, and an adjustable hemmer! I can't believe we got all this fun for only $9.
I am starting to feel like a home for wayward sewing machines, but gee whiz at least it's not dogs!

OPJ's

So I had some time on Wednesday, so I went out to Sharpless Auctions.
We laugh and call Sharpless, OPJ's-Other Peoples Junk.
Every Wednesday they have a big auction. They have stuff outside, cars, lawn equipment, lumber, barn boards, fencing, old iron stuff.
And they have two other buildings. You just never know what you'll see there.
Turtle shells,
Shop stuff...hmmm extension cords & "fine" art....
Old wheel rims, rusty iron stuff,
In building 2 they have all kinds of household stuff. I think there was an office that had closed and also a small estate. Ha Carbon Paper...kids today don't even know what that IS!Tables of stuff, stuff, stuff.

Furniture too! Today they had a lot of beds and couches and tons of chairs.

So here's one for everybody, a vintage cash register and a yard blower. Go figure?
Vintage bow ties, all stored neatly in their boxes, and green jadite plates.
Oh Tin poultry!! I MUST bid on those!!
glass ware, "collectable" things that collect dust, and so much more, here's what I went to see.
