The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I love a good craft show. I love to see the art and the crafts. Today was the annual Thieves Market at the Iowa memorial Union, in Iowa City, Iowa. BTW Iowa Hawkeyes 12-0 will be playing for the Big 10 championship tonight-GO HAWKS!

 Parking is always an adventure and the construction folks were probably very tired of the traffic generated by this big arts and crafts show.

 This was my very favorite booth at the show. These are vintage trees from the 30s and the artists filled them up with all kinds of old timey goodness.

 Unfortunately they were waaaay out of my price range, selling for around $250 each. But they were awesome! I'm going to keep my out for a tree like this!

 There was a good crowd, the IMU is a really large place so moving around was easy! So many great pieces of art. A few too many pottery folks in my opinion, but each one had something unique to offer.

Lots of jewelry, and lots of photographic art too. It's officially that time of year!

Art Fest

So TONS of pottery, jewelry, paintings, prints, woodwork, sculptures, metal work, mixed media, clay, stone, wood, paper, copper, rusty iron, fabric, and I don't know what all else.

Music, these ladies were playing for the Iowa City Englert theater booth.

The kids area had tons of activities, color stuff, paint stuff, cut and paste stuff, One of my favorite things is the randomly placed pianos outdoors on the ped mall,in past years they leave them  out all summer, I only saw this one this year.

There were demonstrations-you might be able to tell in this bad picture, there's a group of girls demonstrating Irish step dancing. And this guy was demonstrating blowing glass beads.

This guy had these big pieces that were rustic looking barns, about 10" tall and about 3 feet long but only about 5 inches deep to hang on the wall.. They were probably the coolest thing there...including a very cool price!

There are bands and musical entertainment all day long, and food vendors!

The cornroc guys are here and the Johnsonville brat folks with the biggest grill,

Caribbean food, Chinese food, pizza, Greek food, popcorn, funnel cakes, and yogurt!

For my volunteering time I got a free T shirt and a free brat! YAY!

Art Festival is Coming Right Up

 Every year DD and me try to get to the Iowa City Art Festival

It's in Downtown Iowa City and is really amazing. There's music, and crafts, and stuff for kids to make, and art to see, and peopel to watch and food to eat. 

Well this year I signed up to be a volunteer! Go Here-the Summer of the Arts Home Page.
And sign up. I'm going to be an artist's helper. I get to help an artist, so when they need a little break, I come around and watch their stuff for them, or if they need help getting something, I get to help them. For 2 little hours 11:30-1:30 I'll be an artist's helper and I get a free T shirt too! See you on Saturday June 2!
