June is Almost GONE!

 So, It's been a little busy, I had a yard Sale on Saturday. It's a lot of work to move junk...I mean merchandise, from one place to another. 

I piled it all in the garage to get it ready for Saturday.

I also sold some quilts at the bargain price of $50each. I sold 4!!!

By the afternoon we were down to this much stuff! We did really well! Kids clothes sold well! 

Dad was hospitalized up in Waterloo, he went to his local hospital complaining of chest pains, and they sent hijmm on to the cardiac unit in Waterloo. He spent 4 days there, they inserted a new stent, and he seems as good as new now. 

And Hubs was in the hospital, at the VA to get some blood transfusions, he was a little low. No one knows why, but this happens once in awhile. He's as good as new again too!

This guy was very helpful. 

Well, that's enough of hospitals for this year I hope!!

And we worked in a trip to the drive in too!. 

Drive In Time!

So Hubs and I made a final fall trip to the drive in on Saturday night. \We saw the Magnificent 7 and the double feature included Sully.The Magnificent 7 was pretty good.I really liked the diverse make up of the 7, even though the story has a few faults, like why don't the miners join the town?

 

I am kind of annoyed with the costuming for the girl lead...I don't know her name, wait, Google......Hayley Bennett. She was a fine actress, but really? No  wife in 1879 California gold country is going to wear a dress cut this low to a meeting at the church to discuss how to save the town.

And really, you're traveling 3 days riding a horse to hire killer gunmen to save your town  and you choose to wear a hippie girl-off the shoulders- peasant dress? Give me a break. Apparently someone is VERY enamored with Hayley's collar bones.Whoever designed the costumes for this movie should have been given the BOOT!

On to Sully. I did not have high hopes for this movie, we already know how it comes out. But I was surprised at how engaging the movie was. It wasn't as dull as I anticipated and it was interesting to have a peek into the world of how investigations go on.  Tom Hanks did a great job I think! No costume issues here! YAY!

So Cowboys and Tom Hanks at the drive in, not a bad Saturday night!

Poke'Dress at the Drive In

So a few weeks ago the youngest kid asked for a new summer dress. Remember I made the turtle dress last summer, so I thought I'd change it up and go with Poke'mon instead...plus I had fabric on hand that would meet the requirements!

 I had to make a little bit of piping to go on the dress. I had a scrap of this polka dot that will look great I think!

 Bernie the Bernina has this handy foot that makes piping a breeze! What a great tool!

 It not only makes creating the piping easy, it also makes attaching the piping easy peasy!!

And it's time for the annual pilgrimage to the drive in too! SO we met Uber Son and the Lovely Jean along with the kiddos at the Valle Drive in over in Newton Iowa! Opening night for Finding Dory! YAY!

I don't think I've ever seen the drive in so packed! There was hardly a space open! Dory is going to be a big hit!

Finding Dory was followed by Zootopia. Both were pretty good movies. And both had really great animation.

And thankfully it cooled off nicely as the sun went down!

At The Drive In

So we made it to the Drive In before it closes for the season. It's just about an hour drive over to Newton, Iowa and the Valle Drive In. This time we saw The Martian with Matt Damon. It was pretty good. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The story moved along well. I thought it might get boring being stuck on Mars, but the movie makers made sure there are a few twists to keep it interesting. I'd see it again.
One great thing about the Valle Drive in is that it's always a double feature. The Intern with Robert DeNiro and Ann Hathaway was the 2nd feature. I had seen previews of this movie and thought it would be really good.

Honestly though, the story was too poorly edited to be a really great movie. I wanted to like it so much, Ann Hathaway's character was wonderful-such a great script, Robert Deniro was excellent playing the older wiser intern, but bottom line they edited out so much that the story was just disjointed. They mention doing things, but then never do them, I have no idea why they left a whole sub story about an email set to Ann Hathaway's Mom and the other characters go through a whole silly scene about it. It really served no purpose and was not in keeping with "wise" intern's character. And why did they even bother talking about her mom-we never see her and have no idea why she calls. Poor editing and poor story telling. Acting was good though!

The Dark Knight

SO since the weather cooled down a bit, we took our summer pilgrimage to the drive in in Newton Iowa. The Valle Drive In  is about an hour from our house and a good place to see a movie.There was a pretty large crowd to see The Dark Knight Rises with Dark Shadows for the double feature. Just so you don't think the drive in is a fancy schmancy place, it's likely the only place you'll see the pack & play baby crib nestled between a Jeep and a mini van.

It might also be the only place you'll see kids on the roof of their gown-ups work van.

We got there in plenty of time to secure a great location, next to a couple in a Ford Focus enjoying their Pizza Hut pizza,  to munch our KFC drive through chicken, purchased moments before heading in the drive in gate. Gotta love the town of Newton!

 

So at intermission Ben was checking his phone and we  agreed, it wasn't that good. Sorry Christian Bale.

Really I was so disappointed to see so few cool "toys"! Batman has a utility belt full of great toys, not this time though-oh sure a couple of bat-arangs, and one toss out the hospital window to see Commissioner Gorden. BA-not cool enough! The bat cycle was tired, and I could go with out Batman pummeling Bane over and over agian! It was so out of character! AND speaking of out of character...Batman has a quickie on the floor in front of the fireplace with...Oh I better not say...but Batman has a higher moral standard than that! No fooling around, Batman!! And as much as I love Ann Hathaway-and she did look very shapely in her cat suit, her character had such a horrible script.....she could have been ANYONE! Poor Ann, I say! I did like Micheal Caine as Alfred-even though he totally needed a mustache.  I really hated the villain guy- he made no sense, his voice was almost unintelligible, and while him and Batman were pounding on each other-for waaaay more time than necessary-, why didn't Batman just rip his weirdo face mask thingy right off and be done with it?And the worst thing of all.....BATMAN'S VOICE!! AGGHHWWGGGHHHHH!!! Please!!!!  he sounded like a pervert making an obscene phone call after smoking 27 packs of Camel non-filters. And don't even get me started with the story line...I can forgive a lot-it is a comic book after all, but really this was so not good.
At least the popcorn was delicious!
