Quick-The Rain Stopped!

 SO the gutters were overflowing! Lucky for me, the dogs got me up early on Friday. SO before it got too hot, I got the ladder out to get the gutters flowing again.

 They were just packed with the seeds/helicopters from the maple tree. I thought I was so smart to put those screens in the downspouts, but they just clogged the whole thing up-out they go! The gutters with no screens in them were dry and just needed a quick handful of helicopters/seeds tossed out!

 Standing on the ladder always makes my feet hurt-glad that job is done! Now off to work!

 Then, on Saturday I went to get an oil change-had to wait awhile, so strolled down the pathway by the Iowa River.

 The river is pretty high in Iowa City, but not as bad as it has been in past years. Hopefully the rain will hold off for a few days now.

 SO far so good-two days with very little rain in our area!

And the peonies are finally blooming! The rain has been beating them down a little but they sure do look pretty!

Bucket Garden

 SO we love garden fresh tomatoes in the summer. Who doesn't? They are so good, nothing like what is available in stores. In past summers we've planted them in pots on the deck and in the yard. This year I wanted to try something new. SO I made this highly detailed, perfectly rendered drawing of the bucket garden. Off to Menard's to get some lumber!!

 Look! I got Hubs a Mother's Day gift for me while I was at Menard's! I've been wanting a workbench for the garage,and it was on sale!

 So DD stopped by and helped out with the assembly. Following my detailed drawing, I cut and she assembled. She made fun of my old-school drill (it has a cord) but it works every time I plug it in and it doesn't run out of power. So there HA!

 It's been chilly, but I want to be ready to put those tomatoes out as soon as we can! It occurs to me I could have save a couple of bucks by making the corner posts shorter.....maybe next time!

 There! All done and ready to go!

 And now 3 weeks later I'm ready to pot some tomatoes. We drilled holes in the bottom of the buckets, and I dumped in some rocks before filling with dirt.

 Ringo is inspecting the work....

 He approves! We've had a ton of rain in the last few weeks and it has been unseasonably chilly! But the plants we bought have been sitting out on the porch and they really need to get into their new buckets.

 Look at the river we had in the back yard on Saturday!

 It's like the rain just won't stop!

 Well I'm glad the planting is done-we'll see what happens with the bucket garden.

In the Backyard

 This is what was in my backyard last week, the sewer lift station quit working, so the city had to come in and work on it.

 And of course, it started raining, and of course they had a big honey wagon back there....

 and the dogs couldn't go out there, the gate is open, and no flushing, and it's raining hard!

This is what's left.

They say they will be back to smooth out these giant ruts. 

 But it's been raining off and on almost every day!

I'm just glad they have it working again!

No Blizzard for us...Yet!

Yup, just a little bit of snow and a bunch of slush! The weather forecasters were really off in our area-sorry folks to the North of us though-they really got it bad!

 Foggy and flakes, and let's hope for some rain and no freezing!

Off to work I go!

Rain Rain Go Away

 On Tuesday we had a downpour! I am thankful that we are high and dry!

 It was crazy windy and the rain was coming down in buckets!

The river that runs between our house and the neighbors was too big for Bob to ford. I walked over and got him back in his own yard-that should teach him, right?

It's Raining!

Jazz wanted to go outside, but I didn't want to mop up afterwards!It has been so dry around here, it's a big deal when it rains like this! The folks who watch such things said at church this morning we had received one inch of rain!

More Watching Stuff Dry

So some time ago we had the plumber in to fix a leaking fitting on the shower head in the Men's Room. They replaced the piping and put in a backer board to support the fitting. SO there it was. Not very attractive is it.

 I finally got to work and replaced the drywall, and made a feeble attempt to tape & mud the drywall. Thanks to the guy at Lowe's I think I got it! Now I'm just waiting for the mud to dry before I sand it and do it again.

 So I guess I better get busy and finish this mending job for a guy at work.

Nothing like a little mending while the nud dries...speaking of mud, I was pretty shocked to see the condition of my driveway Thursday morning!

 This low spot in the corner has always been an issue, but jeepers, I've never had it as deep as the door sill!!

All this rain is just crazy!!! And to top it all off I keep seeing little snow flakes out there today! I think I'll go work on that quilt and not look outside anymore!!
