Deck Cushions.

 So, back in July, I got this dandy little cushion for the deck bench. I got it at Aldi. It was $19.99, a little more than I wanted to pay at Aldi, but I've been looking for awhile and was worn down. So I was keeping my eye out for matching chair cushions. When Lovely Jean & Ben came over, she said, couldn't you just cut a bench size in half?  I told her it sounded like a lot of work.......

Well, she was right, here it is August and no chair cushions are to be seen at any Aldi. SO I broke down and bought the bench cushion.....

and took out the stuffing and cut it in half and lookie here......

It wasn't hard at all! And the cushions fit perfectly! SO now when Lovely Jean and Ben come over the cushions are ready!

Busy, Busy, Busy

 

So it's all about the air conditioner again!  Look at that iceberg formed around the a/c line. I used the hair dryer to melt it away and then left the fan on the unit running all night to thaw the entire line. 

Then it happened again! So I called our usual repair folks at Affordable Heating and Cooling. They said there may be a leak or a clog. Great. They can't get to us until Monday (this was Thursday).

SO I thawed it all out again and then I place the stand fan in front of the unit thinking that maybe it wouldkeep it from letting water pile up and freeze. Well what do you know i! It worked! We were cool as ever over the weekend and it was no trouble to wait for the repair guy to get here. It was a clog in the area of the condenser coils. All fixed and good now!

When I got up on Friday, my Amazon delivery was here! I ordered non-chewable seating for the back deck. 

Now for assembly. It went together pretty well. Just remember to leave ALL the bolts loose until they are ALL in place, only two or three turns on the nut. Then go back and tighten them all up. 

I really like the bright red color!

And they are more comfortable than they look.

Out there eating candy on the deck, what a sweet moment!

And another great moment-Luna got spayed! YAY!!

DD dropped her off in the morning and I picked her up in the afternoon. She's doing just fine and dandy! Very nice folks at the Iowa Humane Alliance. They are a non profit that offers low cost spay & neuter surgeery as well as offering all kinds of products and services for pet owners. 

Winter Was Hard on the Park Bench

Winter was hard on the park bench from the back yard. The frame on the back broke! A couple of screws fell out-how does that happen? 

The bottom board on the back is really in bad shape. SO I took it apart, and scrounged up some pressure treated boards.

I had to replace the screws that hold the support brackets on the underside of the seat. I didn't replace the seat slats-just tightened up the bolts. I replaced those slats that a few years ago-2012 actually.

There! I cut the top rail so it fits pretty good. Not too bad!  I was going to sand it smoother to fit the plastic lattice stuff, but I'm out of sand paper! 

There all done and ready for another season of sitting. Don't look too close! There is room for improvement, but it'll do. One more thing checked off my to do list!!

 

All Done WIth the Parkbench

SO it took awhile to get the bolts out, but I got them done. Then I used my new power tool the handy sander, and smoothed the edges of the cedar boards. I couldn't get the exact dimensions of the original boards but pretty close.

And after a second trip to the hardware store for screws

, I got hte bracing brackets back in place.

All done..the back looks a little shabby compared to the new seat, but I imagine it will all weather together in a summer or two.


And Mitch & Sandy helped too!

So Much to Do...

SO this morning I spent at the U of I hospital & Clinic, it was Hubs' day for the "procedure".
I always go to the rooftop cafe there and get a cookie-they have the BEST sugar cookies there, and the sun was bright over the North. When DD was little she said it looks like Beauty & the Beast castle. And it does! But we were done and out of there by 11 so I had time to work some on my park bench. One of the boards is broken, and it's very weathered, so a make over is in order.

I got the boards and new screws, and a new tool too! I love power tools. 

Look at this cute little sander I got. It was marked down at Menard's. Only $12! THe sanding sheets hold on with Velcro! Who knew?!!!
