Well, That Was Unexpected

It was raining cats and dogs on Friday morning, and around 6:30am I was in bed wishing the dog didn't need to go out, and I heard a big loud WHHummmP! noise. It didn't bother the dog, but I got up to have a look out the front windows.

This picture from the sliding door off the kitchen is funny because you can see the TV screen reflected on the glass, and it's telling about the severe weather warnings. A branch off of the front yard tree broke off and fell right beside the deck!
After the rain stopped I went out and had a better look. Yikes!, just missed the generator!
And missed the porch!
But did not miss the fence. Not bad though!
See where the branch came from!
I am so thankful, a friend of Dannie's texted me asking if I could use some help with the branch in the yard! Thank you Missy & Andy and their crew with a big chainsaw!! Such good hearted people , I am sooo thankful!! We had it all cleared away in less than an hour! Good workers!
I had to run into Menards to get a connector and a couple of new caps for the fence repair, I had enough top rail left over from previous repairs!
There! All fixed up and good to go!

Odd N Ends

So my work required me to remain self quarantined for 10 days due to close contact with some one with Covid. When I got back to work, I had to send our health dept folks a photo of my temperature check as I entered the building. Green Check is Good!
Anyways, I had some time to kill, so I organized my ratty old tool box. The winter was tough on it too. It had been tipped over, and all the junk just tossed back in. Not good at all.
There, much better-top try all sorted.
One drawer for screwdrivers-I think I have enough......
And those pesky stray sockets-metric and Standard, all sorted out now. I have a set with the sizes sorted out, these are just Odds N Ends.
My beautiful gardener came and did the 1st mowing of the year.
 She's so good!
We also had a small family get together while my younger sister was visiting for Brother's funeral. Bean was messing with me...
They said, they took a picture of me taking a picture.....I sure love these two!
And these two too
And these two too! We had a nice lunch at Julie's and I sure hope we get to visit a little more often soon!

And then yesterday I was alerted that the contractor that's going top build the new deck was going to bring cement ! I had to cobble together a fence to keep the dogs out of that part of the yard. I just gathered up all the odds n ends I could find to keep them in the back part of the yard. More to come about that cement!

Derecho Fence Repair or Home Ownership part XXXVII

So you might remember that we had a part of a tree fall over our back fence as a result of the derecho back in August. It's pretty bad. I checked the length I needed and measured my car to see if I could get a 10' length of tubing in my car.  It will fit kitty cornered to the front. So off I go to Menards to get the tubing and I get there and discover that the tubing comes in 10'6" length...I'm not too sure about that extra 6'.......

.I poked my car quilt against the front windshield, laid down one side of the back seat and that's how you get 10' 6" to fit in a Jeep Cherokee! YAY!

First, I had to replace the line post. We had a post already so I didn't have to buy another one...just had to dig a new hole.
Good! That's looking pretty good. I pounded the post in with the sledge hammer(with a board on top)  to get the height just right.
Ringo was helping.....or chewing his toy, maybe that IS helping! I used the sawsall to cut off the old part of tubing that wasn't bent-I'll need the length to add to my new part. Now to get that loop onto the post. The top of the post was just a little bit dinged up; so I used a file to smooth it down so the holder will fit on top. Darn it...so close, I'll just use the hammer to tap it onto the post......
See what happens when you try to use the hammer to tap it onto the post? Luckily I had planned for just such an event and had a spare top cap part!
Here it is all finished!  It looks all nice and level doesn't it? I just eyeballed it!
Now that looks so much better. Before & after!

There! Glad that's done! The neighbors are safe from the dog pack!

Deep Sigh...

Remember when I blogged about my Sewer troubles? Here?
Well look at this.
The city still hasn't come to fix the mess they left behind. The lid isn't locked shut to the lift station, and it stinks back there!! I'm glad we don't have littler kids around with that lid not locked down! It makes me nervous-I hate to think of a kid or a critter was to fall in there!
There's a big hole in the dirt next to the cement station. And darn it I had just planted hostas from the front hill all the way around the darn thing too!
And worst of all they haven't put our chain link fence back together so the dogs have been confined to the little area on the south side of the house. No fun for them!

They had to trench up through the neighbors yards too. They just left a lump of dirt all the way up there! I hope we get some action soon, Hubs told the mayor that we'd call a landscaper and send them the bill if they don't get it taken care of.
It's getting to be a jungle out there-I may have to call the hay balers to come in!!

Tough Love in the Yard-Pays Off!

I'm so glad to see that some of the lilies that DD planted last year a surviving in the yard!

These red ones are gorgeous! I hope they spread out and fill in the area in front of the chain link fence!
