Noodles!

So the ladies at my church make noodles to serve and to sell for the annual bazaar & supper-which is coming up soon, on November 3. They put out the call for help and a group showed up to learn the secrets of Church-made noodles.

 I had a little time before it was time to go to work so I stopped by too! The process begins with mixing the dough. Marie's husband Larry took care of that by keeping the mixer going.

 Another person kept the eggs coming-cracked and in a bowl, ready to add to the flour-regular and semolina flour-I think that's the secret!


Then the assembly line continues with the next ladies in line making the big glob of dough into smaller balls and then the smaller balls are sent over to the folks running the pasta machines. The balls get run through the machine twice, once at number 3 and then through number 5. It's just like play dough!

Then as the dough is pressed into sheets, they are placed on the tables covered in sheets to dry. There were about 11 folks there, and we got done in just about an hour! I had to go so I didn't get to see the cutting and packaging. But the hardest part was done!  I think I was the only one there who had to go to work-ie: likely the youngest person in the room!

A Little Quilt finish

So, I mentioned that Mama Klux had given me a little  pile of fabric to use when she moved. 

 

 There were 6 panels of this little puppy kitty print-vintage from the 80's I'd guess. SO I thought I'd turn it into a quilt for the church bazaar coming up in October. I trimmed off the ugly edge prints.

 I made some of those easy star blocks to go with and give it a scrappy look. I think it helps it not look so dated. I'm planning to have this be toddler bed/crib size. Here's the layout-I also used the border print for the star center squares-the puppies and kitties are pretty cute!

 I also used those dreaded cornerstone borders. I have a hard time getting them to match up, but I must be getting better because these came out pretty good!

 I used a big meandering quilting design and I also used a different batting this time.

 I was at Hobby Lobby and they had needled poly batting, so I thought I'd give it a try. Bob said it was OK.

 See I used the border print on the back side too. And I used a dark print for the binding. It looks great! So the whole thing was completed from stash/scrap fabrics! YAY!

 And after a wash it looks great! I didn't know what to expect with the poly batting, but I like it a lot.

 It still has the same crinkly goodness as when I used the cotton batting. I used my coupon at H.L. and the regular price for the batting is only $3.99/yd!! What a good deal!!

 

Next up, I have a couple of Doll panels that Mama Klux also gave me. My Mom made some of these same panels for DD when she was a little girl!

Pacifier Bibs-Available at the Church Bazaar!

Last year my Mom made cute bibs that looked like cowboy neck kerchiefs for my church's bazaar and they sold so well I thought maybe I should figure out something cute like that. SO apparently the latest and greatest thing in the baby world are these bibs that have a snap or loop to hold a pacifier. Pretty good idea I thought. SO I looked for a free pattern on line and found nothing helpful. I saw a lot of pictures of bibs that look like a long necktie with a pacifier at the end-kinda ugly. SOOOOO, I found a cute bib pattern at Craftsy

 Then I cut it out just like it is printed except no pocket on the front. Instead I made a tab out of grosgrain ribbon (it's about an inch wide and about 7" long before folding) folded in half and stitched down. I also used some twill tape on one bib.....

 Placed it in the seam allowance and stitched it all around leaving a space for turning inside out.

 Then I pressed it well-pushed all the curves out nicely and pressed the opening so it's almost invisible.

 Then here's my favorite trick-I top stitched it all around, but see how I moved my needle position over to the right so more of the foot is on the fabric and I can get close to the edge without falling over! I used my walking foot since this bib is curved and I thought it might try to wander around a bit.

 And top stitched with the opening closed up.

 Now i added snaps. I have some of these plastic snaps and the tool to put them on works so slick! So I got the parts i need all figured out.

 Then attached one snap on the ribbon tab. And I put another snap on the neck tab.

 I made it hang over a little bit so there's room for the pacifier handle.

 There-see I cut a paper pacifier out and put it in the tab!

 All done 4 baby bibs ready for the Bazaar.

Voting and Crafting

So I voted yesterday-our little town isn't very motivated to fill city offices. We had a write in for the Mayor and a write in for council seats too. I wrote in my Uber Son's fiance. She only needed like 62 votes to win...oh well next year!!

Then I got home and fixed up one more bazaar item. My wonderful cousin also let me steal these cute sewing kits from her stash of stuff. I thought I'd doll them up a little bit.

 There, that's much cuter isn't it!

 These little sewing kits are from the dollar store and are actually pretty nice-there's a tiny pair of scissors, needles and thread and a box with safety pins and buttons i it. And a little tape measure and a thimble too. Not exactly top quality stuff, but it sure would be handy when you needed it!!

The fix it quick kit is ready to go to the church bazaar!

Bazaar Jars

So I got some of these vintage jars in a box I got at the auction the other day so I thought I could re purpose them for the upcoming church bazaar. But the rubber sealing rings were all dried out and gross.

 So being the smart person that I am, I traced the old one on to a sheet of foamy craft foam and .....

 OOOOh La La, lookie there, like new and ready to be filled with candy or crackers or something for the bazaar.

It would have been pretty cute if I had some avocado green foamy sheets, but this will do I think.

Church Bazaar Baby Bibs

So, my Mom has been busy. Look at these adorable baby bibs she made at her Bernina Club.

Little flowered ones for girls and Sheriff ones for boys. Aren't they cute!

I used my latest tool to attach snaps The snaps for mom. I am really liking these plastic snaps and the fastener for them. It works great and comes with everything you need to put on snaps easily.

Just use the pokey tool and make a small hole for the pokey part of the snap...

Then put on the snapper part..

and use the tool to squeeze them together and viola! 

Cute bibs are complete. Since we don't have any babies in our family, I told Mom if she wanted to make the project i would take them to my church's bazaar. See that's kind of the trouble with her Bernina Club-sometimes the project isn't something you really need, but the technique or the item is so cute you still want to do it.

So it was rainy all day..yay! SO I thought I should finish this yellow HST quilt. DONE!

I used my walking foot to do straight (ish) line quilting diagonally. I have one of these line follower thingy-ma-bob, but I can't fit it on with the walking foot.



Not quite duct tape, but still tape to the rescue!

Working on it wasn't too bad. It took a good solid couple of hours though, and a little more than 3 bobbins. Funny how I hate running out of bobbins, huh?

This one is going to the church bazaar in November.  Here's the back side. I had a bunch of this yellow fabric left from pillowcases-the fabric was donated by pastor Diane, so now it's going to a good use!

All ready for a wash and dry and I hope wonderful crinkly goodness!
