An Ending and Dilly Pedals On!

 Well, it was a lovely funeral. The flowers were just beautiful!

We had a very nice group of friends and relatives who came to celebrate Mom.  She had a lot of the arrangements already prepared, and the plot in Rose Hill was all ready. We had pie at Perkins after the cemetery. Mom & Dad always enjoy Perkins-the servers know them and have their orders memorized.  So it only seemed fitting to have pie for everyone. 

Tomorrow I'll have Dilly back, and the fun will begin again!

Dilly has the hang of riding his bike now. 

And he needs some boundaries on the driveway-I live in fear that he'll ride right out into the traffic on our busy street.

And we also put up a stop sign-that was good for a little bit-until he took it down and rode on!

And riding a bike makes you hungry, so it's good to have ice cream....

Yard Sales and A Favorite Finish

So, on Thursday, when the wind wasn't blowing-finally-I also spray basted this quilt.

I got this pattern from the All Minnesota Shop Hop 2023 magazine.

I don't think I'll manage to go to Minnesota for fabric, but, I do like this pattern!

Anyway, It was good to finally get it basted!

Hmm, I MIGHT have measured the batting incorrectly.....That's what scissors are for!

And here it is all finished!

I love this fabric so much!

This backing fabric is from Frond-I got it at the All Iowa Shop Hop last year. 

I got the little watercolor floral print in Conrad at Hen & Chicks when I went with my Mom a couple of years ago too. 

I'm still determined to use my stash!

The colors are so much better outsdoors.

Anyway, I got a little bit picture happy I guess.

Ok it's done.....

I also spent a fabulous Saturday yard sale-ing with my DD and my son and lovely Jean. I don't know why on earth I didn't take any pictures!

We got cute baby hats. And a hoodie for a bigger kid. We went to Ely and had ice cream-the best in the world I think. Nothing better that spending time with my favorite people! We also stopped by Swisher, where I found just what I was looking for at the last sale we stopped at!  

I wanted a little storage rack for my rulers-I used to have my rulers in the box...that Iris has commandeered,  but I want to get them off of my table. 

SO I screwed the little rack to the side of the ol bookshelf. Good deal for .50!

Random Grocery Picture

So while we were in Minneapolis we stopped at Lunds & Byerleys-it's a grocery store. It reminded me  a lot of Lucky's in Iowa City. Lots of natural and/or organic stuff.

Anyways, I'd never seen apples packaged like these from Rockit. $3.49 gets you 3 apples in a plastic protective tube. They're pre-washed and ready to go. What a brilliant idea!

And we purchased some treats! I chose some Cedar Crest Ice Cream. Rainbow sherbert. It was some of the best ice cream I've had from a carton. I forgot to take a picture, but it was really good and flavorful!

Independence Day

So another Independence Day has come and gone.

Grilling was completed.....

Black snakes were lit, and still make kids watch in awe.

The parade went on with tractors, and fire trucks and scouts, and politicians,  and

Ashton Kutcher! Not my photo, but this was taken at Lions park as the parade lined up!

Homemade Ice Cream was scooped at the church with toppings....mmm strawberry!

The wiener-mobile was at Hy Vee and

a shiny new flag in the front yard! Happy July 4th!

Chocolate & Vanilla Twist or Choclate & Raspberry Twist?

SO as a fundraiser for my church we volunteer to man..err woman....an Ice Cream Stand at the university of Iowa's Carver Hawkeye Arena.

There wasn't a very big crowd on Saturday for some kind of dual, many people, school wrestling game, meet, sporting event.  Yes, I know very little about wrestling. Why do you ask? One thing I did notice is that wrestlers and their fans are short. I think there are more short guys at a wrestling game, event, meet than at say... a soccer game.

Here's my partner for the day, waiting for the next sale. Hopefully, I won't find myself insanely volunteering for this again too soon!

Chocolate Raspberry Twist or Chocolate Vanilla Twist?

So our church is pretty poor, so we do different fundraisers and one of them is to run the ice cream stand at sporting events at Carver Hawkeye Arena on the University of Iowa Campus.The place is pretty empty when we are required to arrive and have the ice cream stand manned -or womanned--- and ready to go.

All  this nice empty space will be filled with folks wanting ice cream in just a little while. And I don't mean a few people, I mean stuffed with people!

A few hundred ice cream cones and waffle bowls later, the arena is filled with fans for the basketball game-Indiana vs the Iowa Hawkeyes. We have one machine that does chocolate vanilla twist and one that does chocolate raspberry twist. I think we should get paid extra for saying those words over and over again!!

$5 for a waffle bowl and $3.50 for a cone. We stack the cones as tall as possible-the company that runs the concessions only counts cones and bowls not ice cream. SO theoretically you could bring your bowl back and get more ice cream...we'd probably think you were crazy though.

A few thousand dollars-yes I said thousand- and we're done, Iowa WON!  Too bad we don't get to keep all the profits! We just get a percentage. And we are ready to go home!
