Rainy Auction Day

 This big hill is where cars parked to go to the farm auction at the top of the hill. It was a little hike-a lot of hike for my Mom though! Thankfully they had golf carts running folks and their purchases back and forth throughout the day.

 Dad out bid the competition to get the two anvils he wanted....and thankfully the carts gave him a lift to the pick up with them!

 See these two anvils on the bumper of the cart? It was a good way to go! And a great way to get through the mud!

 Most of the .ittle stuff on hay racks was in the machine shed-the rain just wasn't letting up!

 I saw this giant safe-it's pretty cool-I bet it weighs more than anvils!

Mom and me got out of the rain and went to the fabric store...we're smart that way! We got back just in time to help get Dad load up to go! He had to get pulled out of the mud though-poor pick up just couldn't manage the slimy mud! I don't think we'll go to day two!

Auction Day

It's a cold day for an auction but DD and me went anyways. We were going to take a lookie loo at these anvils for Dad. Just our luck they were near the end. But that left us lots of time to lookie loo around.

 Lots of old iron around this sale. It was on an old farm, lots of farm equipment.

 Lots of old buildings..there's an old Cadillac in this barn. It's in rough shape, but the cars seemed to do pretty well.

 Love the old paint on these doors-people try to fale this kind of look all the time, but these are the real deals.

 These old sleds went for $50. They were sure pretty.

 The electrical in some of the buildings was pretty hazardous looking. The folks who lived here seemed to have a lot of livestock and then gave it up to cars and machinery.

 Check this barn out! Wooden peg construction...boy those were the days of craftsmanship!

 This old 2 door station wagon Pontiac went for $8000. It was pretty rough.

 The trim on this old Pontiac was really pretty, I bet it was really something back in the day.

 Wooden spokes on the wheels, and

 a wooden steering wheel, like I said we had a lot of time to look around.

 These fire extinguishers went for $50.

 

Then it started to snow. I've hung around at some cold auctions and in the rain auctions, but I don't think I've been snowed on at an auction before.

 He crowd was getting pretty small by the time they sold the anvils, and doesn't it figure , they went for more money than I had in my pocket. $250

We left in the snow empty handed after a day at the auction. Maybe we'll have better luck next time!

I Fell In Love at the Auction

SO I went to an auction on Saturday over in Solon Iowa. They had a lot of the usual household stuff...

 That humpty Dumpty cookie jar went for $85..... Oh lookie, I used to have a sewing box like that!

 Maybe it's full of cool sewing tools....or NOT!!LOL!

Ooo, look at those cool vintage light fixtures......how cool is that!!  

Then I saw this......look at those smooth drawers...oh my goodness, look at that sliding glass....look at those cute little legs!! YIKES !I'm in love!

Yes, I'm going to bid.....I still have some birthday money left-Thanks Mom & Dad-so I can bid....
And YES I got it, and it's in MY living room now! Love it, love it love it!

Auction Fun

SO, DD and me went to an auction over near Amana, Iowa on Saturday. I confirmed what I always suspected, Tupperware lids live forever, while Tupperware containers disappear.

 Take a look at this GIANT deep freeze. DO people still call it a deep freeze? This freezer could hold a few bodies with no trouble-it's a good 6 feet long- and it's like new! It sold for something like $100.

 There was lots of furniture,

 all set out for easy viewing,

 and for easy test sitting-Hi Honey! We actually bought that chair! It was $5.

 Oh yeah, look at this giant crock-it sold for about $145. There was a ton of small stuff, it took forever to get to the dishes.

 Yup, can you see what the auctioneer is holding up in his left hand? Yes, it's Jadeite.

 Poor DD was just a little nervous when Auctioneer Bret Wears was waving those two dishes around, but he didn't drop them, she bid and won the two dishes for $30.

 I came home with this chair which, while a little low, is soooo comfortable! and this little stool, which will be an ottoman for me. You know how I love those hairpin legs. This little stool was sold along with a whole pile of stuff, so DD asked the guy who bought the pile if he'd sell it, and he did! We kind of thought he wanted the pile of stuff and not the cute iron legged ottoman, and we were right!

Now it's time to focus on what's coming up...Antiques Roadshow in Chicago!!
