Running Through July!

 Where does the time go! The meadow next door is already on the 2nd cutting of hay!

I've started working on the Bjorn Bear quilt for our little Gummy Bear. I chose fabrics while I was out shop hopping in the colors of gummy bears, did you know the original Haribo gummy bears only come in 5 colors? Red, orange, green, yellow and clear. 

It's an Elizabeth Hartman pattern, so there are a ton of tiny pieces. But it's so cute! Here's the link to the pattern Link

I had to make 12 bears! I'm sure glad I didn't make the bigger quilt option!

Here's the first one! It takes a little over 2 hours for me to get one bear cut out and sewn. Cutting is the real time taker on these little guys!

Iris is always so helpful.

Every time I lay out the blocks she comes running in to help!

Ok ready to quilt! I'm thinking something more squarish than my usual meandering. So Square meandering! With a nice soft faux minky backing. 

SO cute! All done and out on the porch for pictures!

Loving those bears, and I think DD will love them too!

Those cute bees on the soft backing, get it? Bears and Bees and honey? SO cute!

On the 11the Pa fell down at the Legion and we thought he broke a hip or something. After 3 hours in the VA ER, they determined that he's just clumsy and nothing was broken. Just badly bent. 

Thank goodness! And DD came with the kids and they mowed my lawn for me! Look at her mowing like a boss, with little gummy bear along for the ride HAHA!

Just a few more days left in July! Wonder if little gummy bear will wait for August?

Well, It's November....

 So, I better finish up with October stuff! Here's Darling Daughter with Drew & Hayden. Missing Hailey, but we'll get her another time I hope!

I went up to Mom's and delivered her walker bag and I also had a Maid Rite.....SO GOOD!

ANd I don't think I showed this pretty fall looking tree in the back yard.

I got these beautiful flowers for my birthday!

The weather was gorgeous, so I went out and spray basted my Social Sharks Quilt.

I think this came out so cute. I was determined to not buy fabric for it, so I used what I had in my stash.

I wasn't sure about the background fabric, but it actually looks good!

This pattern , Social Sharks, was supposed to have 12 sharks. 

I was tired of making sharks after 2, so I quit after 8. 

I think it's still a pretty great quilt, finished at about 60" X 66" , instead of the 76x76 12 sharks would have made. 

And here it is all quilted and bound.

I just did wavy lines across the whole quilt to make it look like underwater.....well at least it looks wavy.

Funny thing, Hubs was watching Jaws last night .....hahahaha

I used the rest of a navy blue batik I had and some night stars for the back. I have a bit of an over stock on fabric, so I was glad to use these pieces up!

I also went to an estate sale and picked up a new metal picnic basket. I love these things! This one doesn't have a label or anything, but has great looking wooden handles. I got it for less than $5 along with a scrabble game and a card game. Always good to have games when kids appear.

That Fall looking trees leaves are gone-Finn  noticed right away. I bought candy bars for tick or treaters, thinking the girls from next door might stop by, nope-they weren't even home it didn't look like! Oh well, I think I'll have a Snickers in my lunch box!

Sewing Day! YAY!

So first I had to do a little bit of mending. A patch on a patch, a patch here and there..... DOne with Hub's jeans...he rubs a bare spot on his jeans with his pencil eraser.

These jeans belong to DD's friend. He's pretty hard on work jeans it looks like to me! But this ought to hold him together!

Now this T shirt for hubs. He burned a cigarette hole in the pocket. I stitched it over, but that didn't look so good. So I un sewed the top part of the pocket and added a band to cover the mended hole LOVE the paisley pocket!

One more pair of jeans to patch...there now I can move on to the dog collars-oopsy I forgot to take a picture! Riley has trouble with her brother Finn, ripping her collar off of her and chewing it. I had enough left un chewed to make one collar. I'll need to shop for some webbing to fix the rest.

I want to finish this quilt today! I had to make a stop at the JoAnn store to get some backing for it. 

They call it Soft and Minky.....it's ok. The pattern with Big Foot...I mean Darrell, is called Legendary and is designed by Elizabeth Hartman. 

SO I started it earlier this month to work on between mystery quilt clues. It went together pretty easily!

The hands were a little tricky-there are 7 pieces in one hand!!!

And the trees can together really well too! I made them out of all the same fabric-lots of folks on line made them with multiple green and brown shades. It went pretty quick-I had it done before the mystery quilt that's for sure!

Here it is all done!

With the Soft and Minky on the back. I spray basted it on the kitchen counter-it's far too cold outside today and the spray baste doesn't hold well in the cold.

I used the same fabric for binding as I used on Big Foot.  Then I just used some brown variegated thread to do a big meandering quilt job on it. Not my best work, but perfectly adequate. I'm a little out of practice. 

Funny thing-see that one background block looks a little darker? Well I chose to use the wrong side of the fabric for this quilt, because I wanted to use what I had on hand, but I wasn't fond of the hat print, so I used the wrong side. You know what they say..."you paid for both sides of the fabric, so use it!"

Anyway, there are several background blocks that are right side/wrong side up. It makes a very vintage look to the background. I should have done more of them that way!!

I just finished snow blowing the driveway, so I hopped outside to hang this quilt up for a quick photo op. 

The backing was perfect-not one wrinkle and the binding was really good too! It finished at something like 60"X 72" I'm sure my background setting borders were a little bit wrong, but it came out great!
