At the Seashore Quilt Along

 SO waaay back in June or maybe it was July, I started my At The Seashore quilt along quilt over at Moda Bakeshop.  Here's the link  To At The Seashore Quilt Along. 
The folks at Moda Bakeshop post a block every week or so, and as they are posted you can make them all and by the time it's done you have a quilt! I let them accumulate for a week or two and then got them made.

 It takes no time at all to make a block, the time is when you wait for blocks to come. They all have a seashore theme-the beach call and the first aid station and at the top is the sparkler block and Popsicles.

 There here are the beach cabanas and the Sailor's Star. I didn't make all of the blocks. I just didn't really like some of them.

 I thought I had chosen good colors-I wanted the brown to look like sand, but I'm not so sure it does.

Then all the blues and aquas, well it is what it is.

 They also posted different ways to set the blocks when you're all done. There was a nice row of flying geese blocks and a row of spool blocks too!

 Anyways, I'm no quitter, so I got it put together and ready to spray baste it on the reliable ol garage door.

 See, there's the lighthouse block and the beach umbrella-there were actually 3 different umbrella blocks posted! I only made one.

 And none of the sailboat blocks was all that great, but I made them anyways.

 And here it is all done! Not the best picture in the shade!

 This is more true to the color. I used my walking foot and a wavy stitch design and just made lines all across the quilt. I backed it with some fabric I had on hand-it's heavier "Sunbrella" type of fabric used for outdoor applications.

 The backing fabric makes it a little heavy.

  I think will be a great quilt for outdoors on the ground. It came out better than I thought it would!

Another finish...now I have aqua and blue scraps...my scrap bins are running over again, what to do, what to do?????

Countdown to Christmas Quilt Along

 So the folks over at Moda Bakeshop are sharing a quilt block every day in the month of December.

 The idea is to make a Christmas quilt, but, I don't have any yardage in Christmas fabric, so I'm using some from my stash.

 Here are the first few blocks I've completed.

I like to think of it as kind of a Hawaiian Christmas using this Kaffe Fasset fabric!

A Quilt Shop Visit & A Finish!

 This is the Old School in Mount Vernon, Iowa. It is filled with little businesses, including a Quilt SHOP!! YAY!!!!! Helios Stitches & Stuff is located here and I stopped by last Sunday...just for a minute....

 I went on a great day-it's sale day at Helio's! Here's their LINK. Look at all this fabric, out in the hall, like it got in trouble for talking in class....

 It's fun to see the old building stocked with shops in the classrooms!  There's a florist and an antique shop and a fitness center and a little gift shop too.

 But I really didn't have a lot of time I was on a mission to get backing for the Choose Your Own Adventure QAL quilt that I had finished. Here's what I came home with! AND only $5 a yard on sale!!!

 Yes, I bought Kaffe Fassett fabric...for ONLY $5 a YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And here's the finished quilt!

 I used almost every bit of peachy colored fabric that I had!

 I also used up that turquoise colored fabric that I had on hand from my last visit to the Minnesota wonderland that is SR Harris Fabrics. Hmmm, might be time for another visit to MCR!

 It's far from perfect! But it's the first time for a medallion quilt and the Choose Your Own Adventure QAL was fun to follow. Here's the LINK to Oda May's Choose Your Own Adventure QAL at Moda Bakeshop for you to make your own!!

 You probably don't see the mistakes, but I do and I really don't care! I just chuckle and think "how the heck could I put those arrows on the wrong way?!" I quilted it on friendly little Bernie the Bernina-I don't think I'm getting to be a better quilter, but I sure do like to finish!

 I used almost all fabric on hand too! I only purchased a little bit more of the peach color so I'd have enough for the binding, which does look good I think!

And the glamor shot-it was such a nice day yesterday morning, but the humidity was awful by the afternoon! On to the next project! Christmas is coming!!

Choose Your Own Adventure QAL

I've been QAL-ing, (that's Quilt A Long-ing) with the Moda Bake Shop Choose Your Own Adventure. Here's the beginning LINK

So this QAL is a medallion quilt. Every week the  Moda Bakeshop hostess posts the round for the week. The choose your own adventure comes in when they also post an alternative block! 

You can choose to make either path and they all have cute summer camp names for the QAL.

 I chose the Path B  center medallion called Star Points, then the border posted on Sunday, then the next round I chose Path A called Four Points.

 Then the corner stones were posted and I used them too! They are called Tulip Field.

Look here's the postcard from camp they send every week! Oda May is the fictional Moda Bakeshop quilter that is our camp leader!

 Then I made the polka dotted border, then it was time for a big round called Over the River. It's a lot of blocks called Granny Squares. It took a long time! But by the time I got done they were getting better and better looking! The it was the round called Goose Grove using a bunch of flying geese blocks and the alternative block is called Arrowhead Lake, I combined the two options! It went pretty quickly!

And here we go! Here's the current border added on just last night! The next round just posted, I think I'll see what the corner stones look like before I choose my adventure for this round! I'm getting a little low on my correctly colored scraps!I'll keep you psted when I get it done!

Weekly Quilt A Long

So  over at the Moda Bake Shop they offered a weekly quilt a long. They post a block every week and when it's all through you have a quilt.

 Here are my past weeks blocks. It's been kind of a mystery block too, since they don't really show you what the finished quilt looks like exactly.

I had a few yards of the gold fabric to get started and I added another gold fabric to it to have enough-it's a pretty big quilt to make. 

And there have been quite a few little problems with the whole thing really. One week the host said she would post an alternate block , because so many people were having trouble with it, 

then never did, but I'm plowing on.

 

 And I should have known it was a bad deal, when it started off with the poor directions saying "Use a scant 1/4" seam" Scant...that's BS in my opinion, it's either a quarter inch or not! Scant...I call BS!!

 Just a few more weeks and I'll have all the blocks done! I'll not do another one like this again!!

Grrr, scant! Never again!!!!

Decisions, Decisions...

So I'm done with the blocks for this cute quilt called Salt Water Taffy.
Now I can't decide what to use for sashing...Stripes?

Flowerish/paisley....

Yellow with lines...
I guess I'll sleep on it then decide tomorrow. The pattern has stripes....
