At the Home & Garden Show

 

So, last weekend was the local Home and Garden Show out at the fairgrounds. I didn't think I'd have time to go, but Sunday came around and lookie there, I have free time! I called Bean to see if they wanted to go too. SO I met them there.

Isn't this a unique faucet? I like it, but, it didn't seem very practical , but still unique.

They had food and beverage trucks there, so we had a bite and a beverage. Aren't these two so adorable?

There were quite a few there to choose from. 

I had a BBQ sandwich from the Flavor Train, it was quite good!

Here's the best thing I saw there. This is a solution to the horrible waste of space in the corner of lower cabinets. Those drawers pull out and it rotates and there are shelves and drawers all the way around.

It costs something like $2000.00 installed in your own cabinet, but wow is it ever nifty! We filled in the entry forms to win a prize-and likely get a phone call from a salesman!

And surprise, surprise surprise! Jean won a Yeti cooler full of stuff from the vendors at the show!

SO I guess we actually came out ahead after paying the $6 entry and getting a shopping bag, pens, pencils, note pads, rain gauge, plant seeds and who knows what else, plus a new cooler for Mrs. Knuckey-it was a very fun day!

Bucket Garden

 SO we love garden fresh tomatoes in the summer. Who doesn't? They are so good, nothing like what is available in stores. In past summers we've planted them in pots on the deck and in the yard. This year I wanted to try something new. SO I made this highly detailed, perfectly rendered drawing of the bucket garden. Off to Menard's to get some lumber!!

 Look! I got Hubs a Mother's Day gift for me while I was at Menard's! I've been wanting a workbench for the garage,and it was on sale!

 So DD stopped by and helped out with the assembly. Following my detailed drawing, I cut and she assembled. She made fun of my old-school drill (it has a cord) but it works every time I plug it in and it doesn't run out of power. So there HA!

 It's been chilly, but I want to be ready to put those tomatoes out as soon as we can! It occurs to me I could have save a couple of bucks by making the corner posts shorter.....maybe next time!

 There! All done and ready to go!

 And now 3 weeks later I'm ready to pot some tomatoes. We drilled holes in the bottom of the buckets, and I dumped in some rocks before filling with dirt.

 Ringo is inspecting the work....

 He approves! We've had a ton of rain in the last few weeks and it has been unseasonably chilly! But the plants we bought have been sitting out on the porch and they really need to get into their new buckets.

 Look at the river we had in the back yard on Saturday!

 It's like the rain just won't stop!

 Well I'm glad the planting is done-we'll see what happens with the bucket garden.

Weekends Are Too Short

So I had to go get some new tires and an alighmnet...yuck, that's not a fun way to spend almost $400....and that was only two tires!!!! Oh well, it had to be done, to quote my Hubs "your tires are balder than I am"! LOL!

I did finally get these pictures of the pot garden to upload. I added the marigolds. THe herbs are looking good after that rain we had last night!

We Uber son and  Ladybird made a pit stop at the park. She is a sniffing crazy dog., but such a sweetie dog! The peonies are out now the whole bush is blooming.

Back To Real Work....

Gosh, how time does fly! Vacation is over, darn, so I've been busy at home.

Look at this awesome piece of wood. I've started getting it sanded down a bit to make into a table using those awesome hairpin legs I got a couple of weeks ago. Here's the inspiration/idea..(photo from axsoris.com)

You can just see the pretty woodgrain starting to come through. I have quite a ways to go on this project though!

The "garden" is starting to produce some tomatoes! Yay!

And I spied these little green guys eating the parsley, it turns out they are the kind that turn into butterflies, so i guess the parsley isn't as important as they are.
Oh I almost forgot, I also spent some rental time on the long arm machine.

As it turns out, I tend to make bad design choices. Surprised? Yeah, me too...not so much! Anyways, I started out with the large pebble, stones, design, and thought I would do the whole quilt in that way. Well, it takes a lot of thread to do that let me tell ya. I used more than 2 whole bobbins to do the top row(5 blocks across). So, I thought well, I'll do some out line/echo quilting around the center blocks of the quilt. Much better, less thread and less time. But I STILL used my whole 3 hours & 6+ bobbins & an entire cone of thread and got only half way done!! More rental time when I get monied up on payday!

Tough Times in the Tomato Pot

So I'm definitely NOT a green thumb kind of gal. But I like a nice tomato, so Hubs and me try to get some tomatoes out on the deck each summer. 

I popped in to Lowes and picked up a couple of heirloom plants-this nice big one called the mortgage lifter. But dang look at this-some critter has been having my tomato plant for supper!!!!

I HAD a 4 pack of another kind of tomato too-look at this! There's nothing left but one plant and a tiny little nubbin!

I don't know what kind of critter would do this-probably some kind of worm...but I'll git it!!! I'm not going to let my tomatoes die in vain!!! I'm gonna hunt the critter down like the dirty pest it is!!!!

Mater with out the Tuh

So last year we got these big pots and grew some maters. This year we are at it again. YUM! Even the ones you buy at farmers market aren't as good as these. Those little tiny ones are so good, they're like candy! A day or two after I took these pictures we picked about 5 big maters and a ton of tiny baby ones. Like that fancy garden tie on the baby maters???!!
