Draw Something

Although I must admit that draw is a pretty abstract term in this case. Draw Something

Is a pretty fun app game to play. You and another person draw pictures of items and have to guess what it is ...a la Pictionary.
One of my son's friends got me started on my phone and I think it's very fun!
look me up and we can play it!
Oh and Merry 4th of July!

Wedding Gifts...Oh Boy!

SO if you didn't know it already, it drives me crazy to pay more for gift wrap or a gift bag, than what the gift cost! SO I clicked on Pinterest and saw some cute as can be ideas for ways to pretty up gifts, inexpensively.  Look I wrapped this knife set I got for Mike & Lieshia's wedding in brown paper-leftover from the "I Won" post....and then glued on some paper cutouts and some paper doilies (BTW I got the doilies in a swap a long time ago-so they were essentially FREE ninety nine! My favorite price!!) Of course I forgot to wrap the gift reciept in with the box so I stuck a little card on with the receipt  taped inside.

Then DD had a box of Pyrex ware to wrap up. I had some silver solid paper left from a Christmas 75% off sale and then stuck on MR. & Mrs. letters to make it festive!
So TA-DA...really nice looking packages to go to the wedding and no $8 gift bags!!!

Yard Sale Time Again!

So Did you take pictures of something pretty this week, Bonnie?...Umm, well... sorta...HAHA not at all! I took pictures of Junk! Yes Junk! But this is no ordinary junk, this is all donated junk that is becoming merchandise. Yes merchandise!

It mostly all sold in the heat of the day today! I used the Frank Fritz method of "bundling" to clear out a ton of this merchandise! Frank would have been proud!
With some help from my church friends we made over $200-more than enough to pay for this years vacation bible School. So you see it might look like junk, but it's money making junk!

Let the Quilts Begin

Seems like everyone we know is having a baby this year! I am just getting started on the 1st girls quilt. I downloaded the pattern for

Retro Flowers Quilt
and am just getting going on it. I struggled a little bit with the method for cutting but it's coming along now! I'm planning to use fewer blocks to make it a more baby friendly size. I figure if I post about it I am required to finish it in a timely fashion!

They're Blooming!

But not for long if we don't get a bit more rain!

Nine Dollars Worth of Fun

So At the auction yesterday, over in Watkins, DD was eying a couple of things with me and so she bid on them! Look at the lovely case on this little Singer sewing machine. Heck that pretty wooden case is worth the high bid price of nine stinkin' dollars. REALLY!! Can you believe it! Well it had to come home with us!

Inside the lid-which BTW has the key too-attached to a string tied to the handle-is the knee lever. This machine doesn't have a foot control-it has a knee control. The metal control fits n the little hole in the case and hangs down to the sewer's knee to turn it on and off.
Bet my Mom already knew that!
So I checked the electrical cord, which looked like it had been replaced in  at some point not too long ago-maybe the 70's? Anyway it was in good shape.

Then I turned the hand wheel and made sure it would move well, and then I looked in the bobbin case! YIKES! What the heck??
Look at these long skinny bobbins! There's a little push button that releases the bobbin case and then you can threaded it almost like a regular today kind of bobbin. I won't be able to wind bobbins until I get a new rubber O ring for the wheel on the winder, you can see it's pretty rotted.
So we're all threaded and ready to go!
Look at that! It goes like a champ! WOW! It's pretty smooth, and makes a nice stitch. No reverse though! And nothing fancy here...BUT WAIT ! LOOK! Yes there's more.... look at all of these attachments!!!!!!
There's a ruffler, a tucker, a binder, and an adjustable hemmer! I can't believe we got all this fun for only $9.
I am starting to feel like a home for wayward sewing machines, but gee whiz at least it's not dogs!

YUUUUUUUP!

So today DD and me went over to Watkins to a little estate sale. There were a lot of things to look over. It wasn't a really big sale, but it was in a nice shady yard and there was a good friendly crowd.
This brick smoke house was in the back yard of the property.
OOOOOOH! Pretty! This treadle Singer sewing machine had the prettiest artwork on it! I don't think I ever saw a Spinx on a Singer before! It was lovely, in a really pretty wood cabinet with a really cute wooden box of accessories.
You can see the unfolded square wooden box of accessories in the right edge of this picture. This lovely machine sold for only $30.
This little pretty says it is a 128 machine from Singer too. It has a rounded wood carry case. It is so pretty! We came home with a couple of little things, I'll have to take pictures. It was a nice afternoon of bidding! Reminder to self-don't let DD get too interested in anything -she won't hesitate to bid!!!!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

So it was the annual visit to Perfect Game Field, Home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels. It was a beautiful evening-nice breeze and not too hot!

Hubs even came to the game!

Ben and his girlfriend & her kiddos all came to the game too!

Fun was had by all-except the Kernels lost 1-0. :-(

Farmers Market

The Oxford Farmers Market is back this year! I'm not doing a table or anything, but I still gotta go get my cookie fix! Look here, they even have a website this year!
This guy from over in Amana
was here last year too. Green beans maybe next week!

The cupcake lady made cupcakes that look like cows, chick, and piggies. Sooo cute!

The music was very good. A
little duet playing some Jazz/light music-perfect for the farmers market.
I'm meeting the Tupperware lady there next week so we'll see what goes on then..Oh look at the website-Hands of Christ is cooking and that means that one of my favorite local guitarist, Randy Harker will be making some music! YAY!
